Esharan Monroe-Johnson
Executive Director
Esharan Monroe-Johnson is a strategic leader committed to advancing educational equity through literacy. As the Executive Director of Love Literacy—formerly Read Write Spell—Esharan has led the organization through a transformative rebranding that reflects a bold, community-wide vision: ensuring that every child in Forsyth County finds their best future through the benefits of literacy.
With a deep understanding of literacy as a lever for workforce development, social and economic mobility, lifelong learning, and civic participation, Esharan guided the evolution of the organization beyond its roots to a broader approach, including one-on-one tutoring, training for educators and caregivers, and advocacy to address systemic barriers to literacy. Esharan’s work is grounded in the belief that literacy strengthens communities, and her leadership reflects a deep commitment to collaboration, racial equity, and sustainable impact. She has built strong partnerships, positioning Love Literacy as a catalyst for collective action and community transformation.
A passionate advocate and bridge-builder, Esharan brings a unique blend of strategic thinking, operational excellence, and heartfelt commitment to the work of educational justice. Under her leadership, Love Literacy leads Forsyth County for Grade-Level Reading, standing at the forefront of Forsyth County’s efforts to ensure that all children can read proficiently by the end of third grade and have the opportunity to thrive.
Esharan has served as the Executive Director of Love Literacy since 2020. She holds a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling, specializing in Couple and Family Therapy. Esharan is a daughter, wife, and mother of five children ages 19, 18, 15, 13, and 5.
